Autumn Statement 2016 – Substantial Shareholding Exemption (SSE)

The Autumn Statement announced a proposal to simplify Substantial Shareholding Exemption (SSE) with effect from April 2017.

This is the relief which allows a trading company or group to sell shares in another trading company free from corporation tax.

The rules and conditions for this relief to apply are complex; no specific detail has been released yet but, in general, simplification would be welcome.
