Government-Backed Business Support

While there are a number of schemes available through the government in order to aid those most impacted by the Coronavirus, there is also non-financial support in place to help those who need help in other areas, such as leadership mentoring and training, one-to-one business advice and peer networking.

Recovery Advice for Businesses Scheme

One of the non-financial schemes set up by the government, its intention is to help small businesses who are struggling as a result of the pandemic find their feet again. It contains long term advice on key areas of growth for businesses, including:

  • Accountancy
  • Legal
  • Advertising and Marketing
  • Recruitment
  • Digital

The scheme is free to those who desire it, simply follow this link to sign up, which will allow you to set up your business profile, take a health check to make sure you are directed toward the correct kind of support and then connect with advisors relevant to your business.

Each advisor has offered at least one hour of free service to small businesses per month until the end of 2020, and is invaluable in helping those who are struggling in recovering from the economic downturn.

Small Business Leadership Programme

The Small Business Leadership Programme is an initiative funded by the government in order to help small businesses, with £20 million having been set aside in order to coach those interested in leadership skills through business schools.

Here you will learn and develop strategic leadership skills, and the confidence to make informed decisions that boosts your businesses performance. Throughout the 10 week programme, you’ll explore topics such as leadership, innovation, employee engagement, operational efficiency, marketing, sustainable practices, and finance.

If this is something you feel you and your business may benefit from, you can find out more information about the scheme here.

Peer Networks Scheme

The Peer Network Scheme is another government-funded initiative stemming from the same budget as The Small Business Leadership Scheme, which will put you in touch with peers with whom you are able to discuss your business, and can offer valuable feedback on how to move forward.

Again, this scheme is completely free of cost and sessions are run by expert facilitators.

You can apply for this scheme here – Entry requirements are stated below:

  • Business based in England
  • Have between 5 and 249 employees
