5 Minutes With… Lucy Nevens, AAT Apprentice

We want you to get to know our team members in our ‘5 Minutes With…’ blog series!

In the next episode of the series, get to know our AAT Appentice, Lucy Nevens. Lucy tells us what she enjoys most about her role at MHA Tait Walker, what she likes to do in her free time, and her ideal way to spend a Saturday morning…

What is your role and how long have you been part of the MHA Tait Walker team?

I joined MHA Tait Walker over two years ago after completing my A-Levels. I am an AAT Apprentice and work in the Corporate Tax department, but have spent time working in Personal Tax, Outsourcing, and Data Insight and Technology. I assist my colleagues with compliance and advisory work, as well as preparing R&D claims.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I have enjoyed having the opportunity to work within various departments within the firm. I feel this has allowed me to gain a better overview of how all the areas interlink. This has helped my personal development, and I love being given the opportunity to constantly challenge myself.

What’s your favourite thing about the North East?

I love the open space; I have always lived in Northumberland and can often be found on walks in the countryside with my friends and family.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I had a very sociable timetable pre-lockdown! I love to spend time with my friends and family – whether it be going out for a meal or a few drinks, or even just watching a movie. I also love to attend all the MHA Tait Walker social events; this has been a big miss during lockdown for me.

What did you want to be when you were growing up?

I have always wanted to work within law or finance. I actually applied to study law at university, but when I got the job offer from MHA Tait Walker, I knew that this role would be better suited to me, and meant I could get started with my career straight away!

What is your favourite way to spend a Saturday morning?

My favourite Saturday mornings are spent having a full English breakfast with my family. This is usually followed by relaxing and preparing for the weekend ahead; whether that be spending time revising for my ongoing exams or getting ready for a night out!
