Garrick Porteous – Returning to golf for the UK Swing

Our Wealth Management team recently entered into a new partnership with professional golfer Garrick Porteous, to offer support to the sporting community during turbulent times.

As golfing is now allowed under the new rules as the UK starts to come out of lockdown, the Wealth Management team at MHA Tait Walker felt it was important to support the region’s young, talented sports stars.

Garrick shares an update below, as he is about to embark on the first of six events in the UK swing:

It has certainly been a long time since I packed my suitcase to go to a tournament! But the time has come for a safe return to golf, with the first of six events in the UK swing, starting at Close House Golf Club for the Betfred British Masters.

As agreed with the UK government, the European tour will form a ‘bubble’ for the six-week period. All players, caddie and tour officials will be tested on arrival to access the golf course or hotel. This means that, even for a local like myself, I will have to stay in a hotel throughout the tournament week in order to compete in the event.

There are many new rules/guidelines for a European Tour event to take place, but I know that everyone is excited to get back to competing again. I have been out on the golf course most days since the relaxed rules of playing golf. I have managed to play some competitive golf as well to sharpen my game and won one of the 2020 tour events in Leeds last week. So I am feeling confident for the weeks ahead!

I am really looking forward to representing MHA Tait Walker Wealth Management for the first time at a European Tour event. Although there will be no spectators on the golf course, I hope you will follow my progress over the coming weeks.
