Getting to know our Private Client team… Meet Deb Trelease, Chartered Financial Planner
How long have you worked at MHA Tait Walker and what’s your role in the team?
I’m part of the Wealth Management team. I’ve been with the firm for five and a half years, but have 33 years of experience working in the sector (not that I like to admit that number too often!). In the time that I’ve been with MHA Tait Walker Wealth Management, the team has grown rapidly. It’s been really exciting to continue to develop as part of that. I’m a Chartered Financial Planner, which means I spend my days helping clients and their families to plan their finances for the short term and to reach their goals.
What does a typical day look like for you?
I spend most days travelling across the North East, meeting with lots of clients, company directors and business owners. Getting to know them, understanding their goals and helping them to understand what is financially possible for the future and build plans around that. I spend a lot of time communicating with clients about their portfolios and investments. This is especially in times where markets are more volatile. I review their personal circumstances and help them to manage their money on a day to day basis.
All of our clients are so different. They all have a different goal, a financial plan in mind, an age they’d like to retire, different attitudes to risk and what they’d like to leave behind for their families. Building long term relationships and seeing clients achieve what they set out to makes for a really great day.
What kind of clients do you work with?
The people I work with varies a lot, I work with people that are coming up to retirement age, those that have inherited large financial sums, as well as young and dynamic business owners that would like to invest now and plan for the future.
I work a lot with our private tax team, who also have a wide range of clients seeking advice on how to best manage their income, whether this is with pensions or IHT planning for trusts for the next generation.
Why do you like helping clients to achieve their goals?
It is very rewarding and I take my role very personally. It’s all about people and I really feel like I get to make a difference, which is amazing.
A little about you. What’s your favourite thing about the North East?
I’ve lived in the North East for about 20 years, after a life in Cumbria. Everything is near and accessible and there is always so much to do. The pubs and shops are never far away. I love all parts of the North East but my favourite place has to be Durham. I have worked there lots over the years and love it. There is so much history, so much going on and a beautiful place to walk around and take in the sights.
