Getting to know our Private Client team… meet Diane Ferguson
We want you to get to know our Private Client team, who work together to determine our clients’ financial position and help them to understand the financial and tax implications of every decision.
In today’s episode, meet Diane Ferguson, Financial Planner…
How long have you worked at MHA Tait Walker and what’s your role in the team?
My finance background started at university where I studied Business Finance with Accounting at Edinburgh Napier Business School. Whilst at university I worked at RBS and since leaving in 2016 I have continued to work in the Financial Services sector.
I joined the MHA Tait Walker Wealth Management team in October 2019 working as Wealth Support Executive, where I would conduct analytical research and write suitability reports. I recently moved to the Financial Planner role which is something I really enjoy. I enjoy interacting with clients to help them achieve their goals and add value to their lives. The Wealth Management team here at MHA Tait Walker are fantastic and there is a great team spirit where everyone works hard to ensure we maintain our high standard of service in achieving what’s best for clients.
What does a typical day look like for you?
A typical day for me involves engaging conversations with clients and colleagues. It’s important to me to have a good relationship with my clients, so I spend a lot of time communicating with them and answering any queries. No two clients are the same. Each client has different goals, ambitions, situations and attitudes to risk.
A lot of my day is spent developing and monitoring bespoke financial plans. I like to be interactive with clients and provide visuals through the use of cash flow modelling. I use many different tools during the research process and a lot of hours go into producing the best financial plan.
What kind of clients do you work with?
We look after an array of clients here in Wealth Management, ranging from those approaching retirement, new investors and business owners. Finance can be a complex world and not particularly user friendly. My job is to translate the regulation and jargon used by our profession to the clients so that they understand. Clients really value this and gives them more insight into their own financial plan.
Why do you like helping clients to achieve their goals?
Interacting with clients is the best part of the job. When they contact me for help, I provide clarity and get enjoyment out of helping others.
A little about you. What’s your favourite thing about the North East?
I grew up in Kelso, in the Scottish Borders, and have lived in the North East for 4 years. Growing up so close to the Northumberland, I spent many days at the Northumberland coast with my family. I enjoy walking and there are many places in the North East to take in the sights. The most iconic place for me in the North East has to Bamburgh. The beach is never ending and it’s such a calm place.
